Launch
Students will launch the dramatic writing project by analyzing performed texts, trying core rehearsal and writing routines, gathering first audience insights from peers and a community partner, and producing an initial monologue draft that can be tested, revised, and used to frame later empathy research and design work.
Days 1 - 8
Synthesize & Define
Students will synthesize user research from earlier interviews, observations, and performance feedback into a clear design direction for a writing-for-performance course sequence. They will cluster evidence, identify audience needs, define a focused problem through a How Might We statement and design brief, and draft a standards-aligned outline that includes monologues, dialogues, scenes, screenplay work, rehearsal routines, critique cycles, and performance checkpoints.
Days 22 - 34
Prototype & Validate
Students will build and test low-fidelity prototypes of dramatic writing course components, including a sample lesson flow, a workshop routine, and a draft script prompt with performance expectations. Through table reads, peer critique, self-review with recordings, and feedback from outside users, they will complete two documented revision cycles and justify how their changes improve believability, clarity, and audience usefulness.
Days 48 - 60
Showcase
Students will finalize and present their dramatic writing and performance work to authentic audiences, use critique to make last revisions, perform polished pieces in class and for community guests, and document how audience response and self-analysis shaped their final artistic choices.
