Students will launch the weather investigation by observing a classroom weather station, comparing their first school-day predictions with a Mid-Hudson Valley TV weather reporter’s forecast, and beginning shared routines for evidence-based weather planning, question asking, and daily weather-circle reflection.
Days 1 - 2
Launch Mystery Weather
Students will investigate a puzzling local weather situation by observing conditions with classroom tools, comparing their evidence with a Mid-Hudson Valley TV forecast, and refining a testable question and hypothesis about planning for a safe school day. They will practice careful recording, source comparison, peer critique, and early evidence-based forecasting that prepares them for later data collection and analysis.
Days 3 - 8
Measure And Record
Students will collect daily weather evidence with consistent routines, organize observations into shared tables and early graphs, compare class findings with a Mid-Hudson Valley TV weather reporter’s forecast, and complete a midpoint quality check that helps them revise their recording methods before deeper analysis.
Days 9 - 13
Analyze And Share
Students will analyze their class weather dataset, turn observations into graphs and evidence-based conclusions, compare their findings with a Mid-Hudson Valley TV weather reporter’s forecast, and prepare a polished team forecast segment that explains patterns, limits, and safety recommendations for the school day.

Showcase
