Students will meet a local weather expert, explore simple forecast tools, observe how weather affects people, plants, and animals, and gather first evidence about what families and neighbors need from a helpful class weather advisory.
Days 1 - 2
Define
Students will sort weather evidence from their journals and the weather expert visit, identify who needs helpful information, and turn those patterns into a clear class problem statement for a weather advisory poster set.
Days 3 - 4
Ideate
Students will use class weather observations and community needs from earlier phases to imagine several ways a weather advisory could help families and neighbors, then choose one clear direction for a poster set that is based on evidence, easy to understand, and worth developing.
Days 5 - 7
Draft
Students will turn their weather observations, empathy notes, and community needs into a first draft of a class weather advisory poster set. They will study what makes a message clear for families and neighbors, build low-tech poster prototypes with evidence from class records and expert learning, and revise after a structured peer feedback round before moving to testing.
Days 8 - 11
Test
Students will test their draft weather advisory posters with classmates and a local weather expert, collect evidence about what families and neighbors would understand, and revise their messages and drawings so the advice is clearer, more accurate, and more useful.
Days 12 - 14
Critique
Students will use peer critique, expert feedback, and evidence from class weather records to improve their class weather advisory poster set so families and neighbors can understand and use the advice.
Days 15 - 17
Notice & Reflect
Students will share their class weather advisory with community guests, explain how weather tools and class records helped them make helpful choices for families and neighbors, and reflect on how feedback, teamwork, and science learning shaped their final work.
