Research & Gather Insights
Research & Gather Insights
Students will deepen their understanding of how weather observations connect to clothing choices by gathering user feedback, identifying patterns, and visually mapping daily experiences. Using interviews, drawings, and class discussion, they will analyze how weather forecasting helps families decide what to wear and begin identifying common needs across users.
Day 2
Develop Ideas & Plan
Develop Ideas & Plan
Students will analyze weather observations and user feedback to define what different users need in order to dress comfortably and safely for changing weather. They will create simple user personas and clear design criteria to guide their Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guide, prioritizing usability for kindergarteners and families.
Day 3
Create & Test Prototype(s)
Create & Test Prototype(s)
Students will build and test a paper prototype of their Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guide, gather peer and 5th-grade buddy feedback, and record usability test results to improve how well their guide helps someone decide what to wear for different weather conditions.
Day 4
Improve & Refine
Improve & Refine
Students will analyze feedback from peers and 5th grade buddies, identify usability issues in their Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guides, and refine their prototypes to better match real weather observations and user needs before final launch.
Day 5
27 min over capacity (37 min available across 1 day)
Launch & Share
Launch & Share
Students will launch and share their completed Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guides and Class Forecast Board with authentic audiences, including 5th grade buddies and a local meteorologist. They will model weather-appropriate outfits, explain observed weather patterns, receive feedback, and assess how well their designs work for different users. Students will demonstrate mastery of using and sharing weather observations while ensuring their final products are clear and accessible.
Day 5
Evaluate & Iterate
Evaluate & Iterate
Students will observe how families, 5th grade buddies, and a meteorologist used their Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guides, gather feedback about comfort and clothing choices, and revise their guide to better help real users dress for changing weather.
Day 5
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Reflect on Competency Growth
Reflect on Competency Growth
Students will reflect on their growth as kindergarten meteorologists by reviewing their Weather Wardrobe Forecast Guides, discussing patterns they observed, revising one clothing decision based on feedback, and completing a competency reflection to share with families and 5th grade buddies.
Day 5
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Identify & Define the Problem or Opportunity
Identify & Define the Problem or Opportunity
Students will launch their Weather Wardrobe project by observing real weather conditions, noticing how people dress, and interviewing classmates about their clothing choices. They will begin defining the problem of dressing appropriately for changing weather through observation, discussion, and recorded notes.
