Launch
Students will launch the investigation by noticing body-system clues through movement, gathering first evidence about pulse and breathing changes, and starting a journal that captures questions, observations, and early ideas about how exercise affects the heart, lungs, and muscles.
Days 1 - 2
Heartbeat Mystery Quest
Students will investigate how movement changes the body by using clues, models, partner talk, and early measurement routines to focus their question, make a simple hypothesis, and build a peer-reviewed plan for measuring pulse and breathing in later investigations.
Days 3 - 8
Measure And Record
Students will collect consistent before-and-after exercise data with the gym teacher, record pulse and breathing evidence in journals and class tables, use peer and teacher feedback to improve measurement accuracy, and complete a midpoint checkpoint showing their records are clear and traceable for later graphing and explanation.
Days 9 - 13
Analyze And Explain
Students will turn their pulse, breathing, and movement records into simple graphs, use those visuals to identify patterns and surprises, test whether their evidence supports their earlier hypothesis, and revise their posters, drawings, and class display for the Heartbeat Expo.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Students will present their investigation findings about how exercise affects the heart, lungs, and muscles to families, the gym teacher, and peers; use evidence from journals, charts, and posters to explain conclusions; and complete a final reflection on how their ideas changed during the project.
Days 19 - 20
