Students will observe surprising potato growth phenomena, generate and refine investigable questions about water and light, and develop a focused research question with a clear prediction to guide their upcoming farm investigation.
Days 1 - 3
Design
Students will design a clear, step-by-step plan to investigate their potato growth questions by choosing an approach, identifying variables, planning how to collect high-quality data, and revising their methodology based on peer feedback before beginning data collection.
Days 4 - 7
Collect
Students will systematically collect and document potato growth data according to their investigation plans, carefully recording measurements, conditions, and unexpected changes in their grower’s journals so their evidence can be analyzed in the next phase.
Days 8 - 11
Analyze
Students will interpret their potato growth data by creating visual representations, identifying patterns and anomalies, discussing multiple interpretations, and connecting findings back to their original research questions and hypotheses before moving into conclusions.
Days 12 - 16
Conclude
Students will draw evidence-based conclusions about their potato investigations, clearly acknowledge limitations, generate new questions, and present their full research process to families, community members, and local farmers at the Potato Party Showcase.
