Students examine three pre-set potato tubs: one well-watered in sunlight, one under-watered, and one kept in low light (with visible differences such as drooping or pale leaves). In a storytelling circle, students share what they notice and connect to the essential question, “What is the purpose of a potato?” The class creates a large chart with drawings of observations and student-generated wonderings about why the plants look different. Introduce the rotating “potato protector” role and discuss how careful observation helps farmers make decisions.
