Empathize
Students will interview various community helpers in San Jose, engage in role-playing scenarios to understand their roles, and create a personal reflection journal using multicultural symbols to express insights gained about the helpers' diverse impacts on the community.
Days 1 - 3
Define
Students will analyze their experiences from 'Communities Come Alive Day' to collaboratively define the unique roles and contributions of community helpers in San Jose, using storytelling, role-playing, and group reflection to synthesize these insights into a visual map of community helper impacts.
Days 4 - 6
Ideate
Students will brainstorm a variety of community helper roles from their diverse local surroundings, using creative arts and storytelling sessions, while incorporating multilingual and multicultural perspectives, to collaboratively ideate inclusive and respectful representations for their upcoming Community Helper Art Gallery.
Days 7 - 10
Prototype
Students will prototype and rehearse their role-playing performances as community helpers, using costumes and props to explore multicultural narratives, then collaboratively refine their presentations through peer feedback sessions.
Days 11 - 15
Test/Present
Students will present their collaborative art projects depicting community helpers at a 'Community Helper Art Gallery' to peers, families, and community members, explaining the multicultural symbols used and reflecting on how community helpers impact their lives.
