Meet the Helpers

Global Citizen SL.K.1 Reflection Community Partners

Students meet diverse community helpers from San Jose and observe their daily roles. They participate in short role-plays to experience what helpers do and practice asking simple questions. Helpers share stories, and students capture insights in their personal journals using pictures and multicultural symbols. After feedback from the helpers, students reflect on what they learned to inform later work.

Student-facing instructions
You will meet a firefighter today! First, we'll learn about community helpers with pictures. Then, a firefighter will show us their gear and tell us about their job. After that, you can ask them questions to learn more. We'll have a fun movement break pretending to be firefighters. Lastly, you'll share your own stories about community helpers with your classmates in a circle.
