Launch
Students will launch the investigation by examining bird behavior clues, sorting evidence into categories of intelligence, revising their ideas through discussion, and generating focused investigable questions for the field guide work ahead.
Day 1
Analyze Evidence Findings
Students will sort and analyze field notes, sketches, and source evidence to build traceable claims about bird intelligence, create visuals that show patterns and limitations, revise a draft field guide case study through peer critique, and demonstrate readiness for the final showcase.
Days 2 - 4
Showcase
Students will present their collaborative illustrated field guide and paired bird behavior case studies to visitors, gather authentic feedback from families, teachers, and nature center educators, and reflect on how studying bird intelligence helped them recognize multiple forms of thinking in birds, classmates, and themselves.
