Launch
Students will launch the polyhedron mobile project by analyzing examples of hanging structures and Zentangle patterning, then move immediately into a sketch-build-reflect cycle that starts their process portfolio. They will use critique evidence, an initial test photo, and early engineering language about balance, structure, and craftsmanship to prepare for the design brief and criteria work in the next phase.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Students will define the mobile design problem through stakeholder needs, measurable criteria, and real-world research; study balance, polyhedral structure, and Zentangle pattern systems; and produce an initial design brief and process-portfolio evidence that sets up concept selection and prototyping in the next phase.
Days 3 - 6
Decide & Prototype
Students will compare multiple polyhedron mobile concepts against weighted criteria, select a justified team direction, build and test rapid prototypes, gather evidence on balance and stability, and use critique feedback to revise both their structure plan and portfolio documentation.
Days 7 - 10
Revise & Showcase
Students will use prototype evidence to diagnose structural and visual problems, complete targeted revisions, retest with the same measures, and assemble a professional process portfolio and gallery-walk presentation for Balance in Motion.
Days 11 - 14
Showcase
Students will present their completed polyhedron mobiles, artist statements, and process portfolios in the Balance in Motion gallery walk, explain how evidence and revision shaped their final design choices, and complete a brief closing reflection on craftsmanship, collaboration, pattern, balance, and structure.
