Students will launch the farmer advisory project by hearing from a regional conservation or watershed partner, gathering firsthand community evidence about how heat and changing rainfall affect crops and local ecosystems, and using that evidence to define the challenge, identify end users, and generate inquiry questions for the next phase.
Day 1
Examine
Students will investigate how heat and shifting rainfall affect crop photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and carbon movement by gathering community testimony, evaluating scientific and local data sources, analyzing root causes, and drafting an evidence-based direction for farmer recommendations.
Days 2 - 5
Engineer
Students will turn community evidence and carbon-cycle science into a selected farmer-support solution by studying strong models, drafting testable predictions, gathering partner feedback, and producing a detailed creation plan plus a documented revision pathway.
Days 6 - 8
Do
Students will implement their farmer advisory solution with authentic community feedback, document evidence from partner review and local climate/crop data, and analyze how well their recommendation board and advisory brief explain carbon cycling and reduce yield-loss risk.
Day 9
Share
Students will present their carbon-cycling recommendations to an authentic community audience, show how community evidence shaped their work across the full DEEDS process, and document their personal, academic, and civic growth with clear next steps.
