Students will encounter a puzzling energy phenomenon, explore multiple energy measurement units and devices, and develop a focused, investigable research question with a clear hypothesis to guide their week-long investigation.
Day 1
Design
Students will design a systematic investigation plan that matches their research question about energy measurement, identifying variables, selecting appropriate tools, planning data collection procedures, and revising their methodology through structured peer critique before moving into data collection.
Day 2
Collect
Students will systematically collect high-quality data for their individual energy measurement investigations, documenting procedures, conditions, and anomalies so their findings can be analyzed and synthesized in later phases.
Day 3
Analyze
Students will interpret their investigation data on energy measurement, create visualizations that reveal patterns, identify trends and anomalies, and determine whether their evidence supports, contradicts, or complicates their original hypotheses.
Day 4
Conclude
Students will synthesize their investigation findings into evidence-based conclusions, explicitly acknowledge limitations, generate new investigable questions, and present their research to an authentic audience during a mock town hall. They will defend their methodology, explain how different energy units and devices influence sustainability decisions, and reflect on how understanding energy measurement shapes personal and global choices.
