Question
Students will explore surprising patterns about food and exercise, generate focused investigable questions about how food and movement affect the body, and develop a clear research question with a prediction to guide their upcoming investigation.
Days 1 - 2
Design
Students will design a clear, step-by-step plan to investigate how food or exercise affects their bodies. They will choose a method that matches their question, identify what they will measure (such as heart rate or energy level), create a simple data collection plan, and revise their plan after peer feedback before beginning data collection.
Days 3 - 5
Collect
Students will systematically gather heart rate, energy, and food label data based on their investigation plans, carefully documenting procedures, conditions, and observations in their My Body Health Investigation Notebooks. They will conduct quality checks to ensure accurate, organized records that can be used in the next phase for analysis.
Days 6 - 7
Analyze
Students will interpret their nutrition and exercise investigation data by creating picture graphs, identifying patterns and surprises, discussing multiple interpretations with peers, and connecting their findings back to their original research questions and hypotheses before moving to final conclusions.
Days 8 - 10
Conclude
Students will draw evidence-based conclusions from their nutrition and exercise investigations, clearly explain what their data does and does not show, acknowledge limitations, generate new questions, and present their full investigation process to an authentic audience at the Healthy Food Fair and Fitness Fest.
Days 11 - 12
