Students will launch the map journey inquiry by listening to a story, following travel clues to a wall map, marking Kentucky as Home Base, tracing a first route with evidence from map symbols and labels, and completing a passport page that shows how their understanding of maps and journeys is beginning to grow.

Students will refine a focused class investigation question about how maps show home base and possible next routes, test a simple evidence-gathering method with map symbols and spatial vocabulary, and complete a final passport page that shows what they can now explain about maps and journeys.
