The class listens to selected pages from "Oh, the Places You’ll Go!" and then follows 3–4 short location clues around the room to reach the giant wall map. At the map, students help place a Home Base star on Kentucky, read visible labels and symbols, and use yarn to trace one possible journey route while naming words such as home base, route, direction, landmark, and journey. Students briefly turn and talk to one partner, give feedback to 2 peers on whether the route explanation matches the map evidence, and revise the class route idea before the teacher records 2–3 investigation questions on chart paper.
