Empathize
Empathize
Students will investigate how revolutions reshape societies by conducting firsthand interviews, analyzing primary sources from the American Revolution and modern movements, and creating structured empathy maps grounded in real user quotes. They will surface assumptions, practice historical questioning, and build a strong evidence base to define meaningful design challenges for the Legacy of Change Art Festival.
Days 1 - 3
90 min over capacity (135 min available across 3 days)
Define
Define
Students will synthesize their interview notes, empathy maps, and historical research from Chains and primary sources to define a focused, evidence-based problem statement. Through pattern finding, peer critique, and revision, they will craft a clear How Might We question and rationale that names a specific user, their core need, and the historical insight that reframes the challenge.
Days 4 - 6
45 min over capacity (135 min available across 3 days)
Ideate
Ideate
Students will generate a wide range of possible solutions for their Legacy of Change Interactive Art Installation & Podcast Exhibit by brainstorming, using structured ideation strategies, and selecting concepts grounded in real user evidence. They will move from divergent thinking to evidence-based convergence, producing annotated concept sketches that clearly connect design features to historical content, user quotes, and revolutionary themes from Chains and modern movements.
Days 7 - 10
Prototype
Prototype
Students will build and refine low- and medium-fidelity prototypes for their Legacy of Change Interactive Art Installation and podcast exhibit, grounding design decisions in user research, historical evidence from Chains and primary sources, and documented feedback from real users.
Days 11 - 15
Test/Present
Test/Present
Students will conduct a final validation cycle of their revolutionary art installations and argumentative podcasts with new users, refine their work based on documented feedback, and present their full design journey at the Legacy of Change Art Festival, clearly tracing how user evidence, historical content, and iteration shaped their final solution.
