Students will step into Middle Ages social roles, decode how portraits communicate identity without words, and document first evidence-based questions they will investigate about status, beliefs, and social hierarchy in portrait art.

Students will refine an investigable question about portrait clues, build a simple coding method for analyzing artworks, test that method on Middle Ages and Rafael Sanzio portraits, and draft a peer-approved hypothesis they can defend with visual evidence.

Students will present a curated portrait showcase by staging a final pose, displaying a title card, and giving a one-minute oral explanation that uses visual evidence to explain status, values, and social role. They will strengthen their work through a rapid peer feedback-and-revision cycle before completing a graded performance for classmates and invited viewers.
