Students will analyze illuminated manuscript initials, discuss how visual choices create meaning, and begin a first illuminated-letter concept that connects a personal story or symbol to medieval design techniques.

Students will analyze illuminated initials through an empathy and design lens, turn observations into a brief and How Might We statement, generate several concept directions, and test a rapid prototype with peers before revising a second version.

Students will present their illuminated initials in a mini gallery walk, use art vocabulary and multilingual language to explain design choices to an authentic audience, and complete a final performance-based showcase that demonstrates how color, pattern, and symbolism communicate a personal story.
