Students will launch the investigation by solving a fast-paced math mystery that surfaces key Algebra 1 readiness skills, records early evidence in their notebook, and helps them identify what they need to investigate next about exact values, estimates, exponent equivalencies, and scientific notation.

Students will solve a compact measurement mystery, generate an investigable question about exact values versus estimates, and produce a peer-reviewed method plan with an evidence checklist for roots, rational and irrational numbers, exponents, and scientific notation.

Students will present their Measurement Mystery Investigation Report and Investigation Notebook evidence to an authentic audience, defend their use of exact values versus estimates with number lines, roots, exponent equivalencies, and scientific notation examples, and complete an individual exit ticket to show Algebra 1 readiness.
