Launch
You will launch your houseplant investigation by closely examining stressed plants, learning the core signs of plant health, and testing a short starter care comparison. By the end of the phase, you will choose an initial care question, make an evidence-based prediction, and set up the notebook tools you will use to track your plant over time.
Days 1 - 3
Rescue & Question
You will inspect stressed houseplants, document visible evidence, compare likely causes, and turn your observations into a focused investigation question with a hypothesis, variables, and a first-round method rationale you can carry into planning.
Days 4 - 9
Plan & Method Review
You will turn your plant question into a workable investigation plan by choosing a method, setting up reliable measurement routines, testing your documentation tools, and revising your plan through peer and expert critique before you begin the full care cycle.
Days 10 - 15
Routine Data Collection
You will carry out the first cycle of your plant-care investigation by following your approved routine, collecting reliable evidence, and keeping your notebook traceable enough for another person to follow. You will document growth, soil moisture, leaf condition, light placement, and early pest or stress signs, then use peer and expert feedback to tighten your methods before the midpoint analysis phase.
Days 16 - 21
Midpoint Analysis Check
You will check the strength of your plant evidence at the midpoint, turn your measurements and observations into clear visuals, look for patterns and anomalies, and use peer and expert feedback to revise your next care cycle with stronger reasoning.
Days 22 - 27
Analyze & Present
You will turn your plant investigation evidence into clear scientific claims by building final graphs, testing your interpretations with peers, revising your conclusions and care recommendations, and preparing your portfolio and gallery-walk materials for the Leaf Lab Showcase.
Days 28 - 33
Showcase
You will present your plant investigation to classmates and garden center partners, defend your conclusions with data and photos, collect final feedback on your care recommendations, and complete a short evidence-based reflection on how your methods and thinking changed across the project.
