Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to deepen students' understanding of the Mexican Revolution by actively engaging them in historical analysis and interpretation. Through role-play and mock trials, students will explore transcendent ideas that connect cultural, political, economic, and social differences in world history. This project aims to foster critical thinking and collaborative skills, encouraging students to draw parallels between historical events and contemporary issues.

Learning goals

Students will develop a nuanced understanding of the Mexican Revolution, identifying key figures, events, and socio-political impacts through primary and secondary sources. They will critically analyze how ideas transcend cultural, political, economic, and social differences in world history. Students will enhance their research, debate, and presentation skills by preparing for and participating in a mock trial, connecting historical analysis to contemporary discussions.

Products

Throughout the project, students will create a multimedia presentation featuring video clips, interviews, and primary source images to contextualize the Mexican Revolution. They will also develop detailed trial briefs and arguments for the mock trial, showcasing their research and historical analysis. By the end, students will produce a reflective journal documenting their weekly insights on transcendent ideas across cultural, political, economic, and social differences.

Launch

Begin with a 'Revolutionary Rally' where students are assigned roles representing different factions from the Mexican Revolution. Facilitate an engaging debate where students advocate for their group's perspectives, introducing key issues and figures. This immersive role-play sets the stage for deeper exploration and understanding of the revolution's complexities.

Exhibition

Organize a live mock trial event titled 'Trial of the Titans' where students present their cases as historical figures from the Mexican Revolution. Classmates will act as jurors, and community members are invited to witness the proceedings and engage in a post-trial discussion. This exhibition will showcase students' understanding and analysis of the revolution, allowing them to demonstrate their research and argumentation skills in a dynamic and interactive setting.
