Empathize
Students will meet real users, observe how shapes are used and viewed in different orientations, and create a simple empathy map based on direct conversations to understand how people notice and describe shape attributes.
Day 1
🕵️ Shape Adventure Scavenger Hunt

🎥 Bakery Shape Interview & Empathy Map
Deliverable 8m
Define
Students will synthesize what they learned from bakery partners and family interviews to define a clear, user-centered shape problem using a class-generated How Might We question grounded in real evidence.
Day 2
🧠 Bakery Needs to HMW Chart
Deliverable 15m
Ideate
Students will generate many possible ways to design an interactive Shape Safari Storybook that helps bakery customers and families notice shape attributes and orientations. They will brainstorm, sort ideas by user needs, and sketch their top concepts as a blueprint for prototyping.
Day 3
💡 Shape Safari Idea Storm
Deliverable 15m
Prototype
Students will build and revise low- and medium-fidelity prototypes of their interactive Shape Safari Storybook pages and class book features, test them with real users (bakery partner or another class), and document how feedback leads to specific improvements in orientation, size, and shape attributes.
Days 4 - 5
✂️ Shape Storybook Prototype V1
Deliverable 15m
🔄 User Test & Revise V2
Deliverable 15m
Test/Present
Students will validate their interactive Shape Safari Storybook with an authentic audience and present their design journey, explaining how user feedback shaped their final pages and how shapes change when turned, resized, or compared.
Day 6
🎤 Shape Safari Showcase Presentation
