Empathize
Students will listen to a sensory-rich read-aloud with the librarian, identify CVC and sensory words that show feelings, and interview real users to create an empathy map grounded in direct quotes and observations.
Day 1
Define
Students will synthesize quotes and observations from their librarian and family interviews to define a clear, evidence-based โ€œHow Might Weโ€ question that focuses on helping readers understand feelings through CVC words.
Day 2
Ideate
Students will generate many possible ways to help real readers understand feelings using CVC words, then select and sketch their strongest concepts based on user needs identified in earlier phases.
Day 3
Prototype
Students will build and revise a testable version of their CVC feeling-word solution for real users, document feedback, and improve their design before the Word Fair.
Day 4
Test/Present
Students will test their interactive Word Wonderland mural with authentic visitors and present their full design journeyโ€”from user interviews to final CVC word prototypesโ€”at the Word Fair, explaining how sounds and letters help express feelings.
