Purpose

This learning experience is designed to enable students to skillfully use the Spanish language in real-world contexts by creating engaging digital projects. Through immersive hands-on tasks like creating podcast episodes and virtual home tours, students will authentically connect with cultural themes while practicing present tense regular verbs and the verb "ser." By participating in peer feedback and galleries, students will enhance their language proficiency, strengthen their understanding of family and home-related vocabulary, and develop digital literacy skills.

Learning goals

Students will effectively utilize simple present tense regular verbs and "ser" in Spanish to describe their family and home. They will develop skills in asking meaningful questions and providing descriptive language to convey cultural aspects through their digital projects. Additionally, students will engage in peer assessment, learning to give and receive constructive feedback focused on language accuracy and depth of description, thereby refining their communicative and presentation skills in Spanish.

Competencies
  • Making Meaning - Formulating questions (FL.ID.1.b)
  • Cultures - Social groupings (FK.SS.4.b)

Products

Throughout this learning experience, students create personalized Spanish-speaking podcast episodes to introduce their family and home. They also design digital tours using 360-degree photos and audio commentary in Spanish. By the end, each student produces a digital storybook featuring illustrated descriptions of family members and a virtual home tour. These projects culminate in a 'Family & Home Gallery Walk,' where students showcase their work to classmates and guests.

Launch

Start with an immersive icebreaker where students, in small groups, use simple Spanish phrases to role-play introducing their families as if at a party attended by Spanish-speaking guests. Encourage them to creatively describe household items or rooms in Spanish using regular present tense verbs. Conclude the activity with a full-class brainstorm session to compile useful vocabulary and phrases, setting the stage for their podcast and digital tour projects.

Exhibition

Invite classmates and guests to explore a 'Family & Home Gallery Walk,' where students showcase their podcast episodes and VR tours at individual stations. Utilize QR codes to navigate these interactive displays, offering an engaging way for attendees to listen and experience each student's work. Encourage feedback and discussion to foster a deeper understanding of the cultural and linguistic elements presented.
