Launch
Students will enter a rescue-dive scenario, investigate how gas behavior and heat loss matter for diver safety, and generate first-round evidence, questions, and design ideas that prepare them for user research and planning in the next phase.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Students will gather user and context evidence from marine safety and underwater-environment experts, build early science explanations about gas behavior and heat loss in scuba situations, and organize those findings into a planning artifact that will guide later dive-plan and warming-device design.
Days 3 - 6
Define & Ideate
Students will turn research evidence into a focused dive-design brief, generate multiple air-and-warmth concepts, and use particle models, calculations, and feedback to choose promising ideas for later prototyping.
Days 7 - 10
Prototype & Present
Students will turn their draft ideas into tested warming-device prototypes and evidence-based dive-plan materials, use two rounds of feedback to improve them, and prepare a refined safety briefing for external validation.
Days 11 - 14
Showcase
Students will present their completed dive-safety briefing boards, air calculations, particle models, route maps, safety checklists, and tested warming-device prototypes to a Coast Guard or marine safety guest and other visitors, answer questions with evidence, and show how critique led to final revisions.
