Learning Goals
Students will be able to observe insect body parts, behaviors, and surroundings to understand that close sensory observation helps people learn about living things.
Students will be able to investigate where insects are found by recording sightings with pictures and marks to understand that everyday observations provide data that can answer questions.
Students will be able to describe insects’ needs for food, water, shelter, and space to understand that habitats support living things.
Students will be able to compare insects’ body parts, habitats, behaviors, and helpful roles to understand that insects can be alike and different while contributing to nature.
Students will be able to answer questions and make predictions about an insect story to understand that story details provide clues about characters and events.
Students will be able to prototype and refine an insect habitat model using observations and feedback to understand that designs improve when they respond to living things’ needs and other people’s ideas.
Students will be able to communicate insect findings with pictures, models, words, signs, or puppets to understand that clear sharing helps others learn and respond.

My Insect Investigation Booklet and Habitat Plan
Each child creates a teacher-supported booklet with an observation drawing, picture-or-mark data, an insect-story response and prediction, insect facts and comparisons, and a labeled habitat plan. The child explains the evidence, identifies a personal design contribution, and shows one revision made after feedback.
Revised Insect Habitat Model and Museum Presentation
Small teams use members’ observations and plans to build, review, and revise a habitat model showing food, water, shelter, space, and an insect-friendly feature, then pair it with a shared insect book or poster. At the Bug Habitat Showcase, every child uses pictures, words, signs, models, or puppets to share evidence, answer a question, and explain how the team used feedback.
