Students will investigate how a fictional society fractures by reading source cards, constructing and revising a hexagonal-thinking web, and using one connection to prototype an evidence-based brick for the Cold War–Crucible wall.
Day 1
Question & Plan
Question & Plan
Students will read and analyze the opening of The Crucible, use hexagonal thinking to prototype evidence-based bricks, and develop focused inquiry questions about fear, power, ideology, and human impact. They will test possible connections, establish research and source-credibility methods, assign collaborative roles, and revise an inquiry blueprint through peer and teacher feedback before beginning substantial research.
Days 2 - 7
Gather & Document
Gather & Document
Students will read The Crucible daily while systematically gathering, evaluating, and documenting literary, historical, visual, and oral-history evidence. They will use full hexagonal-thinking protocols to interpret relationships, challenge preliminary conclusions, and prototype four color-coded brick types. Every day concludes with an exit ticket naming one academic success, one challenge, and one next-step goal; on Days 9, 12, 14, and 15, students will also complete a hexagonal-thinking exit slip identifying a connection, uncertainty, and research need.
Days 8 - 15
Analyze & Draft
Analyze & Draft
Students will closely read The Crucible, analyze literary and historical evidence, test connections through hexagonal thinking, and draft four evidence-based bricks. They will distinguish meaningful parallels from important differences, document anomalies and conflicting evidence, and use peer and teacher feedback to revise their work.
Days 16 - 21
Revise & Build
Revise & Build
Students will verify, revise, and finalize four evidence-based bricks before testing how they fit within the 100-brick Cold War–Crucible wall. They will use targeted reading, peer critique, teacher conferences, full hexagonal-thinking protocols, evidence-based conclusions, and safe wall assembly to prepare for the public exhibition.
Days 22 - 27
Showcase
Showcase
Students will install and test the completed brick wall, rehearse evidence-based explanations, present to families, local veterans, and community members, and evaluate how their research, collaboration, and revisions shaped the final exhibition.
