Launch
Launch
Students will launch their investigation of culture and belonging through interactive world literature stations, close reading, cross-media comparison, ethical question design, and dialogue with immigrant and refugee community partners. They will begin reflection journals and evidence records that will develop into inquiry portfolios, seminar materials, creative responses, and the class anthology for the Our Community exhibition.
Days 1 - 4
Frame Inquiry
Frame Inquiry
Students will frame an inquiry into culture and belonging by closely analyzing world literature, comparing print and multimedia accounts, learning from community-partner perspectives, and testing patterns against contradictory evidence. They will produce a focused question, preliminary interpretive hypothesis, annotated evidence map, and reflection-journal entry for the next phase.
Days 5 - 11
Plan Methods
Plan Methods
Students will design, test, peer-review, and revise an ethical inquiry method that connects world literature, contextual research, print and multimedia comparison, community-partner perspectives, seminar preparation, and ongoing reflection.
Days 12 - 18
Gather Evidence
Gather Evidence
Students will systematically gather, attribute, and organize literary quotations, contextual research, cross-media observations, and ethically collected community-partner insights. They will use these records to draft and revise a reflective or creative response, prepare seminar ideas, and pass a midpoint evidence-quality check before beginning pattern analysis.
Days 19 - 24
Analyze Patterns
Analyze Patterns
Students will analyze patterns, tensions, and anomalies across world literature, contextual sources, multimedia accounts, and community-partner perspectives. They will test an original hypothesis, develop a defensible interpretation, revise reflective writing and seminar notes through multiple feedback rounds, and document limitations and new questions.
Days 25 - 30
Curate Findings
Curate Findings
Students will verify and finalize evidence-based conclusions, revise reflective and creative writing, curate team sections of the Our Community digital anthology, prepare multimedia and seminar materials, and document speaking and listening growth through feedback, revision, and self-assessment.
Days 31 - 36
Showcase
Showcase
Students will rehearse and revise their evidence-based seminars, finalize the class digital anthology, present findings to families and community partners at the Our Community exhibition, and use portfolio evidence to assess their growth.
