Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain common sports injuries and safe recovery guidance using rest, ice, compression, elevation, and signs that require medical care without attempting to diagnose an injury
Students will be able to apply thermal energy transfer principles to test and improve an insulated cold-pack model for safe cold therapy guidance
Students will be able to apply Newton’s Third Law to test and improve a protective-padding model for reducing collision-related injury risk
Students will be able to prototype and refine an accessible sports-injury information app using criteria, constraints, peer feedback, and evidence from scientific tests
Students will be able to collaborate inclusively to justify app design decisions, communicate team learning, and reflect on academic and socio-emotional growth

Sports Injury App Engineering Notebook
Each student documents injury and recovery research, thermal-transfer and collision-model evidence, multiple screen concepts, a design-choice justification, feedback-based revisions, and a reflection on individual learning and inclusive collaboration. The notebook distinguishes safe general guidance from diagnosis and identifies when users should seek medical care.
Evidence-Based Sports Injury App Prototype and Recorded Demonstration
Teams create and peer-test an accessible app prototype explaining common injuries, RICE guidance, medical-care warning signs, cold-pack thermal transfer, and collision-related injury prevention, then revise it using test data and feedback. A two-minute recorded presentation demonstrates the prototype, justifies key decisions, describes shared roles, and summarizes team learning.
