Students will investigate what flowers need to grow by planting and caring for a healthy garden with Ayleene and Danica. They will apply scientific facts about sunlight, water, soil, and spacing, then use feedback from a mid-project walkthrough to revise watering, spacing, or labels. Students will show their plants to teachers and create a short Canva reflection using words or drawings to explain their teamwork and gardening science.
Learning goals
Students will explain how light, water, soil nutrients, air, space, and temperature affect flower growth. They will work with Ayleene and Danica to plant and care for healthy flowers, observe growth, and record scientific evidence. During a mid-project walkthrough, they will evaluate plant health and revise watering, spacing, or labels based on their observations and peer feedback. Students will present their plants to teachers and create a short Canva reflection using writing or drawings to describe their teamwork and accurate gardening science.
Products
Students will work with Ayleene and Danica to plant and maintain a healthy flower garden that demonstrates how sunlight, water, soil, nutrients, and spacing support growth. They will create plant labels and a brief observation record documenting growth and care decisions. After a mid-project garden walkthrough, the group will revise watering, spacing, or labels based on evidence. For the teacher exhibition, students will present their plants and a short Canva reflection explaining group collaboration and scientific facts about gardening.
Launch
Begin with a garden investigation: observe healthy and struggling flowers, record visible differences, and identify evidence of sunlight, water, soil, nutrients, air, and space. In a team with Ayleene and Danica, examine the planting area, measure available space, and create an initial plan for planting, watering, spacing, and labeling healthy flowers. Share the plan with classmates for feedback, revise one feature, and plant the flowers while documenting starting conditions. Preview the teacher exhibition and begin a short Canva reflection with drawings or notes about teamwork and scientific facts to update after the mid-project garden walkthrough.
Exhibition
Host a garden showcase where each group presents its healthy flowers to teachers, explaining what flowers need to grow and how watering, spacing, and labels supported plant health. Ayleene and Danica can help guide visitors, describe the group’s mid-project observations, and identify changes made after the garden walkthrough. Display each group’s short Canva reflection with drawings or photos, scientific gardening facts, and a brief description of how the team worked together. Invite teachers to ask questions and leave one note celebrating the garden or suggesting a next step.
