Learning Goals
Students will be able to investigate a community partner’s experiences, priorities, and constraints to identify an authentic need that an AI-supported tool could responsibly address.
Students will be able to synthesize firsthand user evidence into a focused problem statement, measurable design criteria, and appropriate ethical constraints for an AI-supported tool.
Students will be able to generate and justify multiple AI-supported solution concepts by connecting proposed features to partner needs, feasibility, accessibility, privacy, and potential impact.
Students will be able to prototype, test, and refine an AI-supported tool through repeated draft, feedback, revision, and retesting cycles informed by user evidence.
Students will be able to collaborate in defined and flexible project roles to make shared decisions, resolve disagreements, and contribute reliably toward a community partner’s goal.
Students will be able to communicate the purpose, design process, performance, limitations, and community impact of an AI-supported tool through process documentation, digital media, demonstration, and reflection.

AI For Good Human-Centered Design Portfolio
Each student submits firsthand user-research evidence, an individual concept prototype, design rationale, and a process journal documenting technical growth, decisions, setbacks, feedback, testing, revisions, next steps, team contributions, and final reflection. The portfolio demonstrates how the student’s evidence and ideas informed the team’s problem definition, working tool, promotional story, and showcase presentation.
Community AI Tool and Live AI For Good Showcase
Each team delivers a working AI-supported tool for its community partner, evidence of testing and revision, a promotional video telling whom the tool serves and why, and a live showcase demonstration with partner and audience Q&A. The presentation explains how individual research and concepts shaped the shared problem statement, design decisions, responsible-use safeguards, limitations, and final solution.
