Students will explore how artists use color, line, shape, texture, and movement to communicate basic emotions, then test and improve a simple emotion artwork based on classmates’ reactions.

Students will observe visual art, media art, dance, and art in their school environment; listen to classmates’ emotional reactions; and organize direct evidence on picture-based empathy charts. They will compare initial guesses with what viewers actually say, identify patterns, and revise their charts through peer feedback.

Imagine & Plan
Students will organize classmates’ reactions, identify patterns, and frame a picture-supported design question about helping an audience understand an emotion. They will develop three distinct emotion-art ideas, use feedback from two peers to revise one idea, and collaborate on an evidence-based plan for a shared mural and movement presentation.

Build & Improve
Build & Improve
Students will build simple emotion-art and movement prototypes, test whether peers understand the intended feelings, and make visible improvements based on two rounds of feedback.
Days 16 - 21
Refine & Present
Refine & Present
Students will test their emotion art with a new viewer, use evidence and peer feedback to refine individual and collaborative work, select three portfolio pieces, prepare picture-supported labels, and complete an in-class gallery and movement preview.
Days 22 - 27
Showcase
Showcase
Students will rehearse, present, and reflect on their Basic Emotions Art Portfolios, collaborative murals, and movement pieces for an authentic audience. They will gather visitor reactions, explain how artistic choices communicate emotions, and use picture-supported reflection to show what they learned.
