Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to define measurable criteria and constraints for a 3D-printed Hawaii souvenir using the production budget, printer limits, retail range, and buyer needs.

2

Students will be able to generate and evaluate multiple labeled souvenir concepts using a decision matrix that compares buyer appeal, cost, size, and predicted print time.

3

Students will be able to create a printable Tinkercad model and exported STL file by applying dimensions, geometry, wall thickness, and infill decisions to fabrication constraints.

4

Students will be able to calculate unit COGS, gross profit, profit margin, and break-even sales volume using PLA mass, machine time, hardware cost, retail price, and a $30 booth fee.

5

Students will be able to test and refine a 3D-printed souvenir using measurements of footprint, PLA mass, print time, cost, and structured feedback about buyer appeal.

6

Students will be able to justify a final souvenir, retail price, packaging, and marketing strategy with evidence about production feasibility, financial trade-offs, and the target buyer persona.

Hawaii Souvenir Engineering and Financial Design Notebook

Each student independently produces two annotated souvenir concepts, a constraints checklist, decision matrix, Tinkercad plan, test-data analysis, complete COGS/profit/margin/break-even calculations, and a written justification of recommended revisions and buyer appeal. The notebook demonstrates individual mastery and supplies evidence for the team’s final design decisions.

Made in Hawaii Festival Prototype, Business Proposal, and Trade-Show Pitch

Each three-person company presents a tested and revised 3D-printed keychain, bag tag, or desk sign with its STL file, branded packaging, buyer persona, and business proposal documenting constraints, test results, COGS, $6–$8 price, profit margin, and break-even volume. At a festival-style booth, the team uses evidence from members’ notebooks to deliver a two-minute pitch explaining design trade-offs, revisions, feasibility, and buyer appeal.
