How this Plan uses your files

All concrete student tasks in the PDF are allocated in source order. The source’s compressed three-day sequence is distributed across the five-phase, four-week framework: company setup launches the project; Day 1 establishes the business and design foundation; Day 2 covers fabrication, measurement, financial testing, and cost-driven iteration; and Day 3 supplies the showcase and peer assessment. Phase 4 may extend the source’s iteration and proposal-polishing work, but those extensions are Design-required additions rather than separate source activities. The Design-required weighted decision matrix, structured buyer feedback, individual notebook, and explicit retesting are also additions not specified in the PDF. No source activity is omitted.

Launch
Students will enter the Made in Hawaii Festival challenge by analyzing buyer appeal and production limits, then organize three-person design companies with documented responsibilities for the prototype, financial analysis, marketing, and final proposal.

Research & Plan
Students will define the buyer-centered engineering problem, model production costs, investigate existing souvenir solutions, and compare original concepts against measurable criteria. They will select a feasible keychain, bag tag, or desk sign, begin the required Business Proposal Plan, and submit an approved Tinkercad STL file for later fabrication.

Revise & Rehearse
Students will use measured test evidence to optimize their Hawaii souvenir, verify that the revised design meets production and financial constraints, and finalize a buyer-focused business proposal and rehearsed two-minute pitch addressing the essential question.

Showcase
Students will present their final prototype, packaging card, and Canva Business Proposal Plan at a Made in Hawaii Trade Show, answering the essential question with engineering, financial, and buyer evidence. The 60-minute sequence includes booth setup (5 minutes), first-round pitches and peer visits (20 minutes), feedback and revision (10 minutes), revised pitches for invited families, staff, makers, or business partners (20 minutes), and an individual reflection (5 minutes). Each teacher-prepared peer rubric should use a 1–4 scale for product strength, Canva branding, mathematical accuracy, and pitch clarity, with spaces for one financial question, one strength, and one suggested revision; the teacher must also arrange booth spaces, display devices or printed proposals, timers, and audience feedback cards. Teams give feedback to two peers, receive feedback, revise at least one pitch or proposal element, and collect a second round of feedback from the invited audience.
