Launch
Launch
Students will launch their investigation by sorting safe objects and pictures, distinguishing evidence from guesses, and developing respectful questions for older family members and senior center residents.
Days 1 - 2
Ask & Plan
Ask & Plan
Students will turn Mystery Box observations into a focused class investigation question, learn respectful interviewing skills, and create a picture-supported plan for gathering family and senior stories. They will improve the plan through feedback from fourth-grade partners and demonstrate interview readiness before gathering evidence.
Days 3 - 7
Gather Evidence
Gather Evidence
Students will gather firsthand evidence from older family members and Neighborhood House Association Senior Center residents, document what they hear with drawings and labels, and check whether each idea is evidence or a guess. They will sort details as long ago, today, or both and revise an investigation record through kind peer feedback before moving into comparison work.
Days 8 - 12
Compare & Revise
Compare & Revise
Students will analyze interview and object evidence, create and revise past-to-present comparisons, and prepare an evidence-based contribution for the class gallery and senior center performance.
Days 13 - 16
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present evidence-based comparisons to seniors, families, and fourth-grade partners, use audience and peer feedback to strengthen their explanations, and reflect on their learning and collaboration.
