Students investigate how bees pollinate flowers, why bees matter for food and healthy habitats, and what children can do to help bees at school and at home. Through tasting foods bees help produce, observing plants and pollinators, building simple pollination models, and learning with beekeepers, gardeners, and a native plant nursery, they answer the questions: How do bees help flowers grow and help people get food, and what can we do to help bees have safe places to live and find food? Over six weeks, they work together to create a bee-help poster gallery, models, and a small pollinator patch, sign, or care plan that they revise after reflection and share at the Honeycomb Helpers Fair and Bee-to-Bloom Showcase. This project builds science understanding, communication, collaboration, and confidence as students connect with nature and make a difference in their community.

Products
Students will build simple pollination models with pom-poms, pipe cleaners, or cotton swabs, shared research charts from books and guest experts, and sorted flower collections that show which plants help bees across seasons. They will also create planning materials for action, such as a small pollinator patch design, a bee-safe sign, or a simple care plan developed with a native plant nursery, master gardener, or local beekeeper. By the end, the main product is a class bee-help poster gallery with labeled drawings that show how bees pollinate flowers, why bees help people get food, and how to help bees at school or home. Students will present these posters and models at the Honeycomb Helpers Fair and the Bee-to-Bloom Showcase through table stations and a gallery walk for classmates, families, and school staff.
Launch
Kick off with a Sweet Start Bee Bash and From Hive to Harvest Party where students taste honey on simple foods, compare fruit slices, explore seed packets or flowers, and talk with a local beekeeper or garden guest about how bees help make the foods we eat. Invite students to wonder about the questions, “How do bees help flowers grow and help people get food?” and “What can we do at school or at home to help bees have safe places to live and find food?” Students record first ideas with drawings, labels, and partner talk, then try a quick hands-on pollination model using pom-poms or cotton swabs to move “pollen” from flower to flower. End by introducing the class mission: create a bee-help poster gallery and share learning at the Honeycomb Helpers Fair or Bee-to-Bloom Showcase.
Exhibition
Students can host a Honeycomb Helpers Fair where pairs run simple table stations with their bee-help posters, pollination models, and short explanations of how bees help flowers grow and help people get food. Families, classmates, school staff, and community partners such as local beekeepers, a native plant nursery, or a master gardener can visit the Bee-to-Bloom Showcase for a gallery walk and ask questions about ways to help bees at school or home. Include a small display of the class pollinator patch, sign, or care plan so students can share real actions they chose for their community. End with students reflecting aloud or through drawings on one thing they learned about bees and one way they will continue helping pollinators.
