Students will be able to identify and explain how an animal’s habitat meets its basic needs and supports survival.
Students will be able to investigate and describe one animal adaptation and how it helps the animal survive in its habitat.
Students will be able to gather and record information from teacher-provided sources about an animal and its environment.
Students will be able to plan a simple fair investigation or source search by choosing an animal, habitat, and clear focus question from a short menu of options.
Students will be able to construct a labeled shoebox diorama that shows an animal in its habitat with at least one adaptation clearly visible.
Students will be able to write and revise an animal adaptation report that explains evidence for how the habitat and adaptation work together.
Students will be able to present their diorama and report clearly and respectfully during the Critter Museum Walk.
Products
Animal Adaptation Research Notebook and Report
Students complete a simple investigation record with their chosen animal, habitat, notes from teacher-provided sources, and a short written report. The notebook shows how their evidence led to their habitat and adaptation explanation.
Critter Museum Walk Diorama Presentation
Students present their completed shoebox habitat diorama in a class museum walk and explain how the habitat and adaptation work together. The team format is the shared exhibition structure, but each child presents an individual diorama and report contribution to the class audience.
