Students will be able to explain how inherited traits and observable characteristics help a chosen animal meet survival needs in its habitat.
Students will be able to construct an argument that some animals form groups that help members survive.
Students will be able to define a habitat problem for a rescued or zoo animal using evidence from observations, animal-need cards, and expert feedback.
Students will be able to prototype a labeled habitat blueprint and 3D model that shows how design choices support an animal’s survival and group behaviors.
Students will be able to refine a habitat design using partner, peer, and community feedback to improve how well it meets the animal’s needs.
Students will be able to justify design choices during a showcase by connecting scientific evidence, animal needs, and trade-offs in the enclosure model.

Animal Habitat Research Board with Personal Blueprint Sketch
Each student creates a research board with firsthand evidence, animal-need notes, and a labeled first-draft habitat blueprint for one chosen species. This proves individual understanding of how the animal survives, thrives, and uses group behaviors.
Critter Conservation Blueprint and 3D Enclosure Model
Teams combine their individual research and sketches into a revised shared habitat blueprint and small 3D enclosure model for an authentic audience. The final design must show how the enclosure supports survival, natural group behavior, and improved well-being.
