Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to construct and justify formal geometric constructions using perpendicular bisectors, angle bisectors, parallel lines, and copied segments and angles.

2

Students will be able to inscribe an equilateral triangle, square, and regular hexagon in a circle using compass-and-straightedge methods.

3

Students will be able to analyze and compare at least three geometric design solutions using measurable criteria and constraints.

4

Students will be able to evaluate and revise a geometric construction based on accuracy, balance, and alignment evidence from peer and teacher feedback.

5

Students will be able to communicate the reasoning behind a final circle-based geometric design using precise mathematical vocabulary and labeled construction steps.

Annotated Compass-and-Straightedge Construction Portfolio

Each student submits a portfolio of practice constructions, three distinct design concepts, a weighted decision matrix, and written justification for the selected plan. The portfolio shows individual mastery of the construction rules and the reasoning used to choose and refine a solution.

Polished Circular Geometric Design Board with Inscribed Polygons

Teams create a finished rose-window, tile, or medallion design that accurately inscribes an equilateral triangle, square, and regular hexagon in one cohesive circle-based composition. The board includes labeled construction steps, revision evidence, and a short designer statement explaining performance, trade-offs, and limitations.
