The Challenge

Many athletes show a gap between off-season training and game performance because strength, endurance, sport-specific skill work, recovery, and nutrition are often trained separately instead of as connected parts of physical development. When workload, rest, and movement quality are not balanced over time, performance gains stall and the risk of fatigue, preventable injury, and delayed return to play increases across competitive sports.

Challenge Question

How might we address the gap between off-season training and in-season performance at our school so that high school athletes can improve size, strength, endurance, nutrition habits, and game-day readiness safely?

Learning Partners and Clients

Partner with a certified athletic trainer from your school or a nearby sports medicine clinic to review your 7-week strength, endurance, and nutrition plan for safety, recovery balance, and return-to-play decisions. Ask a strength and conditioning coach or sports performance coach to give feedback on your off-season training design, position-specific drills for football, basketball, and baseball, and weekly performance tests. If possible, share your plan with your school athletic director or varsity coaches as the client group, since they need a practical pilot program that connects off-season work to game-day performance.

I can develop a 7-week off-season plan that combines strength sessions, endurance work, position-specific drills for football, basketball, and baseball, weekly performance tests, nutrition targets, and recovery routines reviewed for safety by an athletic trainer.
Do
I can carry out my training plan, track weekly test data and performance changes, gather feedback from coaches or an athletic trainer, and use the results to judge how well my program improves game-ready strength, endurance, skill execution, and recovery balance.
Share
I can share my training program, weekly data, sport-specific progress, safety decisions, and personal growth through a live athlete showcase with coaches, families, peers, and a certified athletic trainer, where I explain not only what improved in my performance but also what I learned about my discipline, habits, and mindset.
