Learning Goals
Students will be able to compute proper-fraction addition and subtraction in everyday snack-shop situations and simplify the results to form accurate quantities.
Students will be able to model proper-fraction multiplication and division in real-life sharing and recipe scenarios using visual representations and equations.
Students will be able to justify which fraction operation to use, explain solution steps clearly, and evaluate whether answers make sense in the snack shop challenge.
Products
Snack Shop Fraction Investigation Notebook
A personal research notebook that records the student’s question, method choices, visual models, equations, and simplified answers for several everyday fraction problems. It also includes brief analysis of which operation was used, why it fit the situation, and how the student checked the reasonableness of each result.
Everyday Fractions Planning Board and Investigation Report
A team product that combines each member’s evidence into a shared investigation report and planning board for a real-life snack, recipe, or sharing task. The report must show visual models, equations, simplified solutions, a team conclusion, and a note about any conflicting or unusual results.
