Learning Goals
Students will be able to analyze pedigrees and family trait charts to identify the most likely inheritance pattern beyond Mendel.
Students will be able to interpret codominance and blood type data to determine allele relationships and explain observed trait outcomes.
Students will be able to collect, organize, and graph trait-trail data from class observations to compare patterns across individuals and populations.
Products
Inheritance Investigation Notebook and New Pedigree Analysis
Students compile their question, method choices, trait data, source notes, and analysis in a research notebook. They then complete a final analysis of a new pedigree and non-Mendelian scenario, defending the most likely inheritance pattern with evidence.
Patterns in Inheritance Lab Expo Poster and Interactive Family Trait Model
Teams synthesize individual evidence into a formal poster and an interactive model that explains a chosen pedigree, codominance example, and blood type pattern. The product must present data, address anomalies or conflicting evidence, and support conclusions with multiple pieces of evidence during the expo.
