Empathize
Students will begin the design journey by experiencing landslide scenarios, surfacing assumptions about community preparedness, and conducting firsthand user research through structured interviews. They will create evidence-based empathy maps grounded in real quotes to inform later problem definition and solution design.
Day 1
Define
Students will synthesize their landslide user interviews and field notes into clear, evidence-based problem statements that define a focused design direction for their Community Resilience Guidebook and Impact Exploration Station.
Day 2
Ideate
Students will generate a wide range of user-centered solution ideas for landslide preparedness, then narrow and sketch the most promising concepts for their Community Resilience Guidebook, Impact Exploration Station, and Landslide Safety Action Kit based on documented user needs.
Day 3
Prototype
Students will build, test, and revise low- to medium-fidelity prototypes for their Community Resilience Guidebook and Impact Exploration Station, using documented user feedback to improve their designs before final testing and presentation.
Day 4
Test/Present
Students will conduct a final validation test of their refined landslide resilience solutions with new users and present their complete design journeyβ€”from empathy research through prototype iterationsβ€”to an authentic audience during a public showcase.
