Students will collaboratively create a visually engaging poster that addresses the essential questions about the Renaissance's significance. Throughout the project, students will assume roles such as researchers, artists, and writers, working in pairs or small groups to ensure diverse contributions. By the end of the week, students will present their completed posters during a gallery walk, sharing their findings and reflecting on their learning. The posters will be critiqued and refined using a provided rubric, ensuring each project meets established criteria for clarity, creativity, and content accuracy.
Launch
Begin with an interactive, immersive role-play session where students step into the shoes of key Renaissance figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Galileo. Each student researches their assigned figure and presents a 'day in the life' performance, using props and costumes to bring the historical context to life. This activity sets the stage by sparking curiosity and encouraging students to explore the cultural, scientific, and artistic revolutions of the Renaissance, leading into their deeper inquiry throughout the week.
Exhibition
Students will present their posters during a Renaissance-themed gallery walk in the classroom, transforming the space into an interactive historical exhibit. Each student will take on the role of a "curator," introducing their work and engaging in conversations with peers, teachers, and possibly guest visitors. This setup enables students to effectively communicate their insights and learnings while fostering a sense of community and collective reflection on the Renaissance's impact. After the exhibition, students will participate in a guided reflection session to discuss their experiences and capture feedback for further learning.
