Purpose

The purpose of this project is to equip students with critical time management and collaboration skills necessary for success in project-based learning and future career endeavors. By engaging in practical workshops, crafting career portfolios, and reflecting on personal growth, students will develop competencies that allow them to balance academic and personal responsibilities effectively. The emphasis on real-world applications ensures students can navigate and adapt their pathways towards academic and professional success while recognizing their potential strengths and opportunities.

Learning goals

Students will develop the ability to effectively manage their time and balance personal and academic responsibilities through practical applications. They will cultivate self-awareness by exploring their backgrounds and motivations, identifying their individual strengths, and understanding how these can influence their future pathways. Students will acquire skills to construct a comprehensive career portfolio, including writing a resume and developing reference documents, while articulating their future goals through multimedia presentations. They will enhance collaboration skills by understanding different personalities and working effectively within teams to solve challenges. Through critical reflections and digital storytelling, students will articulate growth, address personal challenges, and share insights, fostering a deeper understanding and connection to their learning journey.

Competencies
  • Content Expertise - Students develop key competencies, skills, and dispositions with ample opportunities to apply knowledge and engage in work that matters to them.
  • Effective Communication - Students practice listening to understand, communicating with empathy, and share their learning through exhibiting, presenting and reflecting on their work.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.
  • Collaboration - Students co-design projects with peers, exercise shared-decision making, strengthen relational agency, resolve conflict, and assume leadership roles.
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Products

Students will develop a multimedia presentation that showcases the journey and learning involved in building a digital career portfolio, featuring key experiences and decision-making processes. They will collaborate on creating a documentary style video narrating their personal stories, outlining challenges, and documenting growth in time management through interviews and reflections. Finally, they will design an interactive online exhibit using digital storytelling to display personal backgrounds, motivations, and strategies, offering peers and visitors opportunities to engage through comments and feedback.

Launch

Begin the project with a 'Personal Impact Mapping' session, where students visually map out their existing skills, interests, and backgrounds. Facilitate a collaborative brainstorming activity where students explore how these elements could influence their chosen careers, highlighting both potential opportunities and challenges. Encourage students to identify crossover points between personal attributes and career paths, fostering a sense of ownership and direction from the outset.

Exhibition

At the end of the project, host a dynamic exhibition where students showcase their digital career portfolios alongside engaging multimedia presentations and collaborative documentaries. Arrange stations for students to present their visual storyboards, detailing personal journeys and reflections on their challenges and growth. Include interactive elements like live discussions and feedback opportunities, enabling students to engage with their audience and spark meaningful conversations around their project experiences. Facilitate a gallery walk where attendees can view interactive online exhibits and video interviews, deepening their understanding and appreciation of each student's unique path and achievements.
