Empathize
Students will explore how marine mammals perceive sound, gather insights from field observations at the aquarium, and develop empathy through interactive research on the impact of ocean noise pollution.
Days 1 - 2
30 min over capacity (120 min available across 2 days)
Define
Students will analyze research data on marine noise pollution, identifying key impacts on cetacean behavior and well-being, to articulate a clear problem statement that will guide their intervention designs.
Days 3 - 4
Ideate
Students will brainstorm a variety of innovative interventions to reduce ocean noise pollution affecting marine mammals by experimenting with sound in collaborative teams, inspired by their field trip observations and National Geographic video insights.
Days 5 - 6
15 min over capacity (120 min available across 2 days)
Prototype
Students will collaboratively design, construct, and test prototype signs that creatively convey the impact of ocean noise pollution on marine mammals, as informed by feedback from peers, teachers, and insights gathered during their field trip to the aquarium.
Days 7 - 9
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Test/Present
Students will present their conservation sign designs to aquarium staff and peer groups, gather feedback on their effectiveness regarding ocean noise pollution awareness, and refine their projects for final exhibition.
Days 10 - 12
