Purpose

Your senior project aims to demonstrate how structured, science-based training enhances physical performance, leveraging research and expert insights. You'll develop a comprehensive training program and document measurable improvements in strength and volleyball prowess. By engaging in consistent reflection, critique, and collaboration, you'll refine your approach while exploring the principles of hypertrophy, recovery, and effective communication. Your work culminates with an exhibition showcasing the power of discipline and smart programming through interactive displays and detailed visualizations.

Learning goals

Your learning goals include mastering hypertrophy science and understanding exercise vocabulary, recovery principles, and nutrition within the context of program design. You'll hone the skill of data collection, maintain discipline, and foster healthy habits throughout the project. Enrich your communication skills by engaging with fitness coaches for interviews and incorporate video editing techniques for effective presentation of your progress. Explore social media content creation to share your journey and insights, enhancing both your network and self-directed learning capabilities.

Competencies
  • Collaboration - Students co-design projects with peers, exercise shared-decision making, strengthen relational agency, resolve conflict, and assume leadership roles.
  • Content Expertise - Students develop key competencies, skills, and dispositions with ample opportunities to apply knowledge and engage in work that matters to them.
  • Effective Communication - Students practice listening to understand, communicating with empathy, and share their learning through exhibiting, presenting and reflecting on their work.
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.
  • Academic Mindset - Students establish a sense of place, identity, and belonging to increase self-efficacy while engaging in critical reflection and action.

Products

Throughout the project, compile a comprehensive portfolio showcasing your training program development, including detailed data visualizations that highlight progress and performance improvements. Develop a series of engaging training videos that document your technique evolution and personal growth throughout the process. Create visual documentation, such as photos, graphs, and analysis reports that validate the effectiveness of your program with before-and-after comparisons. Design a final exhibition display with interactive elements that allow viewers to engage with key insights from your project, including equipment used, research-backed strategies, and your journey towards measurable progress.

Launch

Start your project launch by conducting baseline assessments to establish your starting point, including testing max lifts, recording body measurements, and gathering volleyball performance stats. Create a detailed training schedule and program structure based on your initial research of key studies. Document your first training sessions, develop a clear hypothesis, and set specific goals that you aim to achieve by the project's end to drive motivation and focus throughout the process.

Exhibition

Showcase your structured training program at the school exhibition with interactive visual displays that feature detailed data charts and progress documentation. Utilize printed and digital materials such as data visualization posters and a live data dashboard to illustrate your journey, insights, and transformations. Include presentations of your technique improvements via video compilation as well as an interactive equipment station with some tools used during training. Engage visitors in discussions about the science behind your program and the consistent discipline required to achieve measurable improvements.
