Purpose

Your project aims to create a transformative workout curriculum that goes beyond physical exercise, instilling resilience and self-efficacy in your client. By designing a personalized fitness blueprint, you encourage emotional stability and a healthier lifestyle, which positively impacts familial and community interactions. Through collaboration with community partners and reflections on your learning journey, you will develop essential competencies while fostering a deeper understanding of physical therapy and sports team dynamics.

Learning goals

Design a hands-on, personalized workout program that encompasses physical and emotional wellness, targeting resilience and self-efficacy. Collaborate with peers to co-create engaging fitness sessions, effectively utilize partnerships with community organizations to enhance program credibility, and incorporate regular self-reflection through blogs and portfolios. Develop effective communication skills by presenting your program to community partners and school sports teams while seeking constructive feedback to refine your work. Engage in an exhibition to showcase the transformative social impact of your workout plan and inspire a community-wide culture of health.

Competencies
  • Content Expertise - Students develop key competencies, skills, and dispositions with ample opportunities to apply knowledge and engage in work that matters to them.
  • Collaboration - Students co-design projects with peers, exercise shared-decision making, strengthen relational agency, resolve conflict, and assume leadership roles.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.
  • Effective Communication - Students practice listening to understand, communicating with empathy, and share their learning through exhibiting, presenting and reflecting on their work.
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Products

Create a personalized, detailed workout program tailored to your client's needs, incorporating specific goals and progress tracking. Document your journey and learning process through a reflective blog and portfolio that you will present in an exhibition format at the conclusion of the project. Engage with community partners, such as the Challenged Athletes Foundation and your school's Weightlifting Club, to gather insights and feedback to refine your approach.

Launch

Kick off your learning experience by hosting a fitness workshop where you introduce your workout program through interactive demonstrations and engaging activities with your peers. Collaborate with the weightlifting club and physical therapy professionals to discuss the importance of fitness in increasing self-efficacy and emotional stability. Use this opportunity to gather initial feedback on your workout ideas and start building a supportive community around your project.

Exhibition

Host a community health fair where you present your workout curriculum, offering mini-sessions or demonstrations for families and community members. Collaborate with your community partners, like the Weightlifting Club or Ms. Mackenzie, to showcase the diverse range of fitness methodologies you've explored. During the event, facilitate reflection stations with blog excerpts and portfolio highlights, providing insights into your process and growth. Enable attendees to participate in a feedback loop, sharing their experiences and suggestions to help you refine your curriculum further. Use this platform to not only exhibit your work but also to inspire collective action towards improved health and wellness.
