Purpose

Craft a meaningful connection between your project work and its impact on the community. When designing a 3D model of your school or refurbishing a table for the archery field, consider how these efforts can enhance communal spaces, foster collaborative environments, and reflect the real-world implications of design and engineering. By actively engaging with peers and local professionals, you will gain valuable skills while contributing to a project that leaves a tangible, positive mark on your surroundings.

Learning goals

Master key skills in CAD design, structural planning, and project management by engaging in workshops and collaborating with local professionals from engineering and architecture fields. Expand your understanding of community needs and architectural history through a 'School Heritage Walk,' applying insights to create functional and impactful projects. Strengthen your ability to receive and utilize peer and professional feedback to refine your projects, fostering critical thinking and collaborative skills. Develop a reflective practice that encourages you to consider the broader social and community implications of your work, enhancing your socio-emotional awareness and creative development.

Products

(1) Construct a model or refurbish a table for the archery field, enhancing the community space and creating a practical item for use by archery enthusiasts. (2) Develop a detailed 3D model of your school with CAD software, to be displayed at an exhibition, allowing you to present and discuss architectural designs and their implications on educational environments. (3) Assemble a comprehensive portfolio documenting your project journey, capturing design iterations and community insights, which will serve as a tangible record of your learning and achievements over the course of the project.

Launch

Begin your project with a captivating 'School Heritage Walk.' During this exploratory walk, examine the architectural history and current needs of the school environment to inspire your 3D model or documentary script. Capture photos, sketches, and notes that highlight the unique elements and historical narratives of the school’s infrastructure. Reflect on how these insights can guide your design choices and storytelling elements in your project. This immersive experience is foundational in aligning your work with community interests and heritage.

Exhibition

Organize a community unveiling event where you present your refurbished table at the archery field, demonstrating its impact and sharing the creative and technical skills you developed. Supplement this with an architectural showcase, featuring your detailed 3D model of the school in a gallery-style exhibition attended by peers, mentors, and community members. Ensure that both exhibits include interactive components, such as guided walkthroughs or virtual presentations, to engage the audience and gather their feedback on your work.
